Introduction

No matter when and no matter where there has never been a man,
however poverty-stricken,who has not had an animal to comfort him in
his misery and keep him company in his solitude.Civilizations have been
formed thanks to this fundamental liking: The Yak civilization of the Himalayas,
the Camel civilization of the Sahara, the Lama civilization of the Andes,
the Pig civilization in New Guinea.
The Paraguayan Indians have even a Bee civilization.
There seems to be a correlation between the effort involved in the struggle
for survival and the levelof devotion man demonstrates towards that
particular animal suited to his needs. The harder man has to strive, the more
he tends to associate himself with animals.
In this aspect nothing has changed.
